Introduction, Engine and Transmission, Suspension.

At the heart of Yamaha’s new “woods warrior” is the same engine cloned from the 2009 YFZ450R. With a trick titanium five-valve head and duel overhead cams, the liquid-cooled 449cc four-stroke single takes care of business. Fuel injection hardware is a carryover from the YFZ450R with a Mitsubishi 32 bit ECU, a 42mm Mikuni® throttle body, and a twelve-hole Denso injector. To negotiate the tricky terrain synonymous with GNCC-type woods racing, the YFZ450X gets customized fuel injection maps designed to compliment this type of riding. Basically, the software map is intended to work more efficiently with riders that tend to “blip” the throttle to negotiate tight trails or to get the tires to hook up on slippery surfaces.
